Nebraska might seem an unlikely place for an Apple Festival but it's one of the best around. Nebraska City is also the home of Arbor Day. The Ohio Military Band is featured in On A Musical Note. And we visit the Kentucky Wool Festival, where there are plenty of spinning wheels and country foods, not to mention great Bluegrass music.

COVER STORY: Apples may be the reason for the annual Applejack Festival in Nebraska City, Nebraska, but the event also affords this picturesque community a chance to brag about being the place where Arbor Day began.

SCENIC AMERICA: The Falls of the Ohio State Park in Clarksville, Indiana allows access to the ancient river bed that is one of the most unusual stretches of the nearly thousand miles of the Ohio River.
ON A MUSICAL NOTE: The Ohio Military Band hasn't had a real connection to the armed forces in more than a century. Those rousing military marches, however, remain a trademark of the group that has a long history as a community band.

OFF THE BEATEN PATH: The story of the historic river town of Saint Joseph, Missouri is intertwined with the westward movement of the United States. The Pony Express began in St. Joseph and it's also the place where the outlaw Jesse James was shot to death. Today, many museums help to re-connect visitors with the town's colorful history.
TIME CAPSULE: We travel to Indian Lake in central Ohio for a gathering of classic wooden boats from throughout the 20th century.  The pleasure boats were on display at an event called "Wooden Keels and Vintage Wheels."

AUTUMN FEATURE: Spinning wheels, Bluegrass music and country food and craft are all part of the Kentucky Wool Festival in Falmouth, Kentucky. It's a great way to mark the start of the fall season.
