FAMOUS PLACES: Gatlinburg, Tennessee, long ago became both popular and well known because of its proximity to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. It's a bustling place year round, ideal for a winter visit.

TIME CAPSULE: Lots of vintage planes and two famous names of the past are part of a 1950s TV special. The host was Arthur Godfrey, a pilot and broadcaster, who interviewed World War I Ace Eddie Rickenbacker.

SEASONAL FEATURE: Many people come to Ober Gatlinburg from the Southern states knowing their kids can play in the snow, some for the first time. It's a great spot for winter sports.
